tbi: ways I help my memory
My memory isn't great, so these are the main stuff I do in order to help my memory! I don't get to pick and choose things I forget or retain. Because it isn't great, I tend to rely on my phone because that's what works for me. I have classmates that rather use notebooks and whatnot which is valid, many have reasons that may differ from one another. I use my phone because I have it on me all the time so it's easy for me to take it out and use it to write something down. If I didn't have my phone I'd use notebooks and whatnot too, I have no issues in doing that.
The apps I commonly use to help me is my notes app and calendar, I also have finch which to remind myself of things I did that day too like drinking water, brushing my teeth, exercises, stretches, etc. for the day. It might be weird to have a reminder to wash my teeth but as stated, my memory isn't good, sometimes I forget if I did do or said something. My calendar is usually for upcoming appointments, hangouts, birthdays, when a semester starts/ends, and if I have a school break like thanksgiving, christmas, etc. so it's nothing special. I go to college so knowing when a break and/or semester ends or starts helps me because I don't want to forget I had class or something when classes for that day weren't canceled at all. Notes app can be details to doctor appointments locations (especially if it's in a different location), lists, ideas, important information, things I told someone, etc.
Why do I write things I told to someone? Because of my memory issues I mentioned earlier, I also have moments where I might say something at like 9am and forget I said it so I say it again on that same day hours later, it can also be weeks or months. I think the common thing I know about is doing it all in the same day but the weeks or months thing can happen. I know this might happen even if I do this but I prefer to minimize it to spare me feeling a bit embarrassed about something I repeated before. I won't feel embarrassed about it all the time or constantly think about it, there's a high chance I won't think about it again and even forget about it.
My memory may be bad but that doesn't stop me from the live I have to learn and listen to others, I might forget a detail or two but I am trying and I'm probably writing it down too if I can! Also playing games like memory cards, sodoku, etc. are helpful for me. I play sodoku and do nonograms pretty often!
